Get To Know The ATLAS Internship Program

As an accounting firm, we understand the importance of continual education.  Promoting education in the tax industry and the wider business world motivates us to evaluate and enhance the services we provide to our clients.

One way we incorporate education at ATLAS is by leading an internship program each year during tax season.  Some tax firms prefer to hire interns during the slow season, so they can closely monitor intern productivity.  However, at ATLAS CPAs & Advisors, we feel that the learning experience is greater during the thick of tax season, giving our interns a true feel for the fast-paced work environment they will face post-graduation in the career field they seek to pursue.  We are grateful for the opportunity to work with amazing interns who are quick to learn and unafraid of a challenge.  Our internship program intentionally promotes career advancement and helps cultivate a robust future for our industry. 

What does the ATLAS internship program consist of?

This tax season, we had the opportunity for 10 Tax interns and 1 Marketing intern to join our firm.  Our interns were spread across three states, in five locations – ATLAS Akron, ATLAS Cincinnati East, and ATLAS Cincinnati West in Ohio; ATLAS Westminster in Colorado; and CMMS Amarillo in Texas.

In the first few weeks of our program, we provided our tax interns in-depth training on tax concepts, state specifications, and the ATLAS preparation process.  Our tax interns also got their hands on example clients to help them improve efficiency and familiarity with our tax software for the preparation of 1040 returns.  All intern practice work was sent to the partners and managers overseeing the program, to review for accuracy and intern readiness.  Any areas for improvement were sent back to our interns with notes and instructions for correction, providing additional learning opportunities.  Once our interns were comfortable putting together the necessary documents, they moved into an essential part of our tax process, supporting our firm-wide tax team with simple tax preparation, always with the support of an overseeing partner or manager.

Our Marketing intern worked on marketing plans, data analytics, social media engagement, and brand design for the firm as a whole, as well as for specific locations.  She was provided opportunities to learn marketing and design-related software, expand long- and short-form writing skills, and collaborate with the development of marketing strategies.  Adding an intern to our in-house marketing team has helped to establish a wonderful connection between our creatives and other departments, allowing us to listen and serve ATLAS clients, the ATLAS way.

We would not be able to conduct a smooth program and learning environment without all the amazing team members that make up the ATLAS family of firms!  Everyone understands that our interns are here for an experience that will enhance their education and further prepare them for their chosen career path.  Our ATLAS partners and managers who supervise our interns are patient and flexible when collaborating with them, making this educational initiative a successful one.  We are grateful each tax season to learn from each other and with each other to better serve our clients.
